Engr. Jude Gbaboyor has raised serious concerns over what he described as an attempt by Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, to evade justice and accountability by launching an early political campaign in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Following the sack of Mele Kyari, an investigation was allegedly carried out by the system, and Mathew Tonlagha and Tompolo were reportedly found to be heavily involved in Mele Kyari’s criminal activities, which were draining the nation.
Coupled with his alleged involvement in a series of grave allegations, including kidnapping, human trafficking, operating a private prison, forced labour, extrajudicial killings, and the use of human beings for ritual sacrifices, Tompolo’s sudden decision to champion Tinubu’s re-election bid was motivated by fear of possible prosecution over his atrocities.
According to Gbaboyor, Tompolo, allegedly acting on the advice of a powerful cabal within the government and former NNPC leadership, launched an early nationwide campaign for Tinubu’s re-election to secure political protection and to evade potential prosecution under the cover of his pipeline surveillance contract.
He also cited the fact that when the National Assembly was expected to probe the monopolised pipeline surveillance contractors over how the money was spent, the lawmakers instead gave them a vote of confidence.
He further noted that when Mele Kyari was invited to appear before the National Assembly, he refused to honour the invitation, yet the House took no action against him.
He argued that Tompolo’s involvement in Tinubu’s political campaign could significantly undermine the President’s credibility and political standing rather than strengthen his chances of re-election.
Gbaboyor maintained that Tompolo was not a credible political campaigner, likening his public endorsement of the President to a terrorist organisation such as Boko Haram campaigning for a political leader.
He warned that the association could damage Tinubu’s public image and alienate voters rather than attract additional support.
The engineer further alleged that the campaign was being sponsored by the former NNPC leadership and powerful political interests benefiting from large-scale oil theft in the Nation.
He claimed that these individuals were using Tompolo as a front to protect their financial interests and preserve the existing structure of pipeline surveillance contracts.
According to Gbaboyor, Tompolo was not financing the campaign with his personal resources but was instead benefiting from funds provided by the alleged sponsors.
He claimed that approximately 80 per cent of the funds generated through the monopolised pipeline surveillance contract, alongside proceeds allegedly derived from deep-sea crude oil bunkering, found their way into the pockets of politicians and members of the oil cabal.
Gbaboyor further accused these individuals of deliberately sustaining economic hardship among Nigerians while continuing to siphon the country's resources for personal gain.
He argued that the alleged beneficiaries had little interest in increasing national oil production because doing so could threaten the financial arrangements from which they supposedly profit.
Gbaboyor urged the Presidency to carefully consider the political and security implications of Tompolo’s involvement in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election campaign.
He noted that the international community was closely monitoring developments and called on the government to exercise caution.
He also expressed regret that in Bayelsa State, where Tompolo allegedly kidnapped several persons over two years ago, the state government has remained silent while its citizens remain missing to this day.
Gbaboyor further alleged that security personnel were being manipulated and used to carry out kidnappings, assassinations and other atrocities against residents of the region, urging the relevant authorities to investigate the claims and ensure accountability.
